Akimbo picks Harmonic’s Rhozet video transcoding technology
Harmonic [1] has announced that its Rhozet Carbon Coder video transcoding technology was selected by Akimbo [2] for its automated Web-based video transcoding and packaging.
Akimbo manages a large library of mainstream and niche encoded video content acquired through its numerous relationships with content providers. Since this content comes from a variety of sources and in a range of formats, the challenge for Akimbo was to develop a process to easily collect and quickly transcode a large amount of content while maintaining the highest video quality.
The Rhozet Carbon Coder has enabled Akimbo to create a Web-based offering that is convenient for its partners to submit video, which is then automatically transcoded and sent to Akimbo's publishing system.
"At Akimbo, we need a tool that supports the gamut of formats our content partners deliver to us and that can quickly output high-quality compressed content ready to publish,” said Seth Bennett, director of content operations at Akimbo. “With Rhozet's Carbon API, our engineers were able to easily automate the acquisition of new content, the transcoding, and the handoff to our content delivery network.”
Akimbo is breaking new ground in the VOD arena, as is Carbon Coder," said David Trescot, VP of the Rhozet business unit at Harmonic.
