* Comcast promotes Killelea to VP of talent, leadership initiatives

Comcast  announced yesterday that Grace Killelea was promoted to the newly-created position of VP of talent and leadership initiatives.
In her new job, Killelea will focus on creating, integrating and leading the talent management and executive development function throughout Comcast. In addition, she will identify future internal leaders, including high-potential women and minorities, and will work with management to help prepare them for their next leadership role and position them for success.
For 10 years, Killelea has been a leader in Women in Cable Telecommunications  (WICT), the oldest and largest organization serving women professionals in cable and telecommunications, and she has served as sole facilitator of the Betsy Magness Leadership Institute program  for six years, developing more than 300 female cable industry executives across the country.
* Cox names Merritt VP of public affairs

Cox Communications  announced that Necole Merritt has been hired as the company’s VP of public affairs.
In her new role, Merritt will be responsible for national public affairs strategies and programs to enhance the company's reputation. She will oversee Cox's media relations, product communications, community relations and employee communications activities. She will work closely with local Cox operations on issues of national interest and serve as communications counsel for Cox management.
Prior to joining Cox, Merritt worked for AT&T  and BellSouth.
* Motorola names new EVP, CFO

Motorola  has hired Paul J. Liska as the company’s new EVP and CFO, effective March 1. Tom Meredith, the company’s acting CFO, will continue as a non-management board member.
Liska had recently been working with a number of private equity firms, including MidOcean Partners, CVC Capital Holdings and Ripplewood Holdings LLC. From 2004 to 2006, he was the executive chairman of US Freightways until its purchase by Yellow Roadway.
Before joining US Freightways, Liska had held several positions with Sears, Roebuck and Co., including president of credit and financial products and EVP and CFO. Prior to joining Sears in 2001, Liska was EVP and CFO of The St. Paul Cos.
* Peak8 sews up $5M in funding

The company said the new funding will be used to expand its product development activities and to increase marketing of Supportal.com , the company’s recently launched Internet service that enables consumers to receive technical support and service assistance with any device or software they use via online support and call centers.
“Peak8’s technology and services are quickly being embraced by the marketplace,” said Ron Renjilian, Peak8’s CEO. “Cable and satellite operators, ISPs, telcos and consumer electronics manufacturers are recognizing the critical need to provide consumers a premium technical support service where the customer experience and satisfaction are the priority.”
* Toner to carry Blonder Tongue’s DAP

The DAP provides a complete solution for delivering digital TV programming in an analog format on a consumer’s existing network. It receives the broadcast off-air 8-VSB digital transmission (or a QAM cable channel) and processes it to a conventional analog (NTSC) TV channel with a high level agile 60 dBmV output, the company said.
On Feb. 17 of next year, the FCC  has mandated that all over-the-air analog signals be converted to digital signals. Viewers who are not subscribed to cable, satellite or telco video services will have to pick up converters in order to view programming.
