Net2Phone mobilizes on mobile VoIP
Net2Phone, which recently disclosed plans for a wireless overlay for its cable telephony partners, said it has selected BridgePort's "MobileVoIP" software/architecture to support a mobile services effort.
The integration will match BridgePort's core software with Net2Phone's SIP-based VoiceLine service. Net2Phone also markets CableLine, a platform based on the PacketCable 1.x architecture. The new PacketCable Release 2 specifications from CableLabs provide support for SIP and IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem).
Net2Phone said the partnership will enable its partners to offer joint landline-mobile services. The resulting platform will also support dual-mode (cellular/WiFi) mobile handsets. In the vein of IMS, BridgePort's system is designed to handle voice and data services over various types of wireless and wired networks, including those based on WiFi and WiMAX.
"Our ability to integrate fixed mobile convergence into our existing VoIP solution solidifies the value of Net2Phone's turnkey VoIP solution for service providers," said Net2Phone CEO Liore Alroy, in a release.
