Harmonic powers German IPTV service
Harmonic Inc. announced that HanseNet Telekommunikation GmbH, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telecom Italia , is using Harmonic's MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) products to enable the carrier's rollout of IPTV services on its ADSL network.
The new TV service is being launched in Hamburg, Germany and will be rolled out countrywide over the coming months. This will be the first large-scale, real-time broadcast IPTV-over-ADSL service in the country, Harmonic said. HanseNet aims to provide 100 channels of TV.
HanseNet's Harmonic-based headend encompasses high-performance standard definition DiviCom real-time encoders for low bit-rate MPEG-4 AVC video, as well as ProView receivers and decoders for scalable content acquisition.
