BelAir enlists cable expertise
Wireless mesh specialist BelAir Networks said it has established a cable Technical Advisory Board (TAC) comprised of cable execs.
The TAC will give BelAir guidance on how its technologies might fit into cable's wireless service plans.
"In creating the Technical Advisory Board, BelAir aims to generate a better understanding of how wireless mesh technologies can be successfully integrated into cable operators' existing business offerings," said BelAir President & CEO Bernard Herscovich in a statement.
The Canada-based company has so far declined to name those individuals, other than to note that BelAir VP of Marketing Phil Belanger will chair the group. A company spokesperson noted that the first TAC meeting is scheduled for Wednesday evening. BelAir may shed more light on cable TAC membership at a press conference slated for Thursday morning in Tampa, Fla., at the SCTE Conference on Emerging Technologies.
The TAC will certainly include participation from Comcast Corp. In October, Comcast Interactive Capital helped to lead a series C round of financing in BelAir. At the time, BelAir introduced two 802.11g-based strand-mounted wireless mesh node products optimized for cable systems: the BelAir 50 and the BelAir 100. The company also makes gear based on WiMAX and 3G cellular technologies.
