CableLabs seeks CableHome-UPnP proposals

Jeff Baumgartner

CableLabs has issued a request for proposal (RFP) for an advanced residential gateway that complies with a version of CableHome 1.1 that supports many UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) features.

More specifically, the RFP is seeking a gateway (a cable modem combined with a router/access point) that implements discovery, prioritized QoS and Network Address Translation (NAT) features defined by UPnP. CableLabs announced plans to incorporate UPnP support in August.

"This industry-supported RFP is testament to this and comes at a key moment in the evolution of broadband service delivery," said Jeff Austin, senior director of new product deployments at Comcast Online, in a statement.

CableLabs has set an RFP deadline of Jan. 31, 2005. Questions can be directed to Cynthia Metsker (c.metsker@cablelabs.com [1]) in the CableLabs Broadband Access Department.
