Videéotron raises broadband bar(2)

Although 3 Mbps has become the new de facto standard on cable and DSL downstream caps, Vidéotron is literally doing one better by increasing the cap of its flagship service from 3.1 Mbps to 4.1 Mbps. The Canadian MSO is also dilating its upstream cap from 350 kbps to 820 kbps. The operator said it is increasing capacity this month and expects to make the change gradually to more than 90 percent of its footprint. Vidéotron is also boosting its "Extreme" high-speed tier, offering 4.5 Mbps down/900 kbps up. The operator, which has about 1.4 million cable subs, also will increase its high-speed consumption cap, raising it from 15 to 20 gigabytes downstream, and from 5 to 10 GB upstream.
