14 respond to OCAP RFP

More than a dozen companies responded to a request for proposal (RFP) that CableLabs issued for the OpenCable Application Platform (OCAP), a middleware specification for OpenCable-based digital set-tops.

The 14 responding companies were: ADB, Alticast, Canal+ Technologies (soon to be part of Thomson Multimedia), Espial, Liberate Technologies, Microsoft Corp., OpenTV Corp., Panasonic, Philips, Pioneer, Samsung, Tata Elxi, Vidiom Systems and Zentek/DigiSoft. Notably absent from the group was PowerTV, the set-top software division of Scientific-Atlanta.
