The telecom industry is full of movers and shakers. The latest: WOW selects new president; Liberty Media names new board member; Thirdspace appoints Gibbons; and Cypress taps Ross. Abdoulah takes president post at WOW Former AT&T Broadband Executive Vice President Colleen Abdoulah has been appointed president and chief operating officer at WideOpenWest. The company is focusing on growing its subscriber base, and believes Abdoulah is the right person to lead its efforts, according to Mark Haverkate, WOW's chairman and CEO. WOW has roughly 300,000 cable and high-speed access customers. The company serves subscribers in Chicago, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver and Southeast Michigan. Liberty Media appoints Rapley David Rapley has been named to Liberty Media Corp.'s board of directors. Rapley, who previously served on Liberty's board in the mid-1990s, is retired from VECO Corp. where he served as executive vice president of engineering. Gibbons joins Thirdspace Video server systems developer Thirdspace Living Ltd. has appointed Chad Gibbons sales director for the Americas. Gibbons will be tasked with driving sales of Thirdspace's Open Video Client product line throughout the region. He also will be responsible for ramping up sales for Thirdspace's entire product portfolio. He comes to Thirdspace from Tuxia, a Linux-based client software company. Cypress names Cisco veteran CTO Mark Ross has been appointed chief technology officer at Cypress Semiconductor Corp. In his new role, Ross will develop new product ideas, improve on the existing product design process and evaluate and integrate technologies and intellectual properties acquired by Cypress. The communications systems maker tapped Ross because of his background. He previously held positions at Cisco Systems Inc. and Sun Microsystems.
