Adelphia taps SeaChange to fuel S-VOD launch

Jeff Baumgartner

Adelphia Communications Corp. has deployed SeaChange International Inc.'s interactive television system to launch subscription video-on-demand services in Cleveland via Scientific-Atlanta Explorer 2000 digital set-tops. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Using a single video server platform, Adelphia will offer S-VOD content from HBO, Showtime and Starz. The MSO said it will gradually rollout S-VOD to more customers in its Cleveland-area system, which represents about 300,000 basic cable subscribers.

The MSO, which serves more than 5.7 million homes, is plotting plans to launch S-VOD in additional markets.

"We're committed to getting the on-demand line-ups into the homes of our subscribers in New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania," said Adelphia Vice President of Finance Jim Brown, in a press release.

In addition to Adelphia, SeaChange also has VOD equipment deals with Cablevision Systems Corp., Comcast Corp and Time Warner Cable, among others.
