D-Link launches secure small network

Anne Kerven

Try putting this on a patent form: the DI-711 Wireless Home DSL/Cable Router & Access Point + 10/100 Ethernet Port.

Irvine, Calif-based D-Link did. The designer, developer and manufacturer of networking, data communications and digital electronic technologies for small to medium business (SMB) and workgroup-to-enterprise environments just launched it as part of its air wireless products line.

The system was designed to provide the safety and security of a natural hardware firewall and the ability to share a single Internet connection, D-Link reports.

Its port-blocking and packet-filtering, and its ability to disguise local users' IP addresses are intended to stop hackers and other intruders. The DHCP services give multiple PCs Internet access via a unique IP address for each user. Its IEEE 802.11b-compliant wireless access point function builds the network infrastructure and extends the network's reach.
