Qwest is the silver lining
Qwest is managing to buck the depressing downturn of fiscal losses, disappearing venture capital and employee layoffs.
The Internet communications company says it expects earnings for its fourth quarter and all of 2000 to at least meet, if not top, estimates. Qwest says strong product demand and revenue growth in its DSL and wireless sectors are partially responsible for the company's strong performance.
"Qwest believes it is not having the same problems announced by several competitors because Qwest has newer assets, a lower cost position and a product and a product line targeted to capitalize on the high-growth sectors of the industry," says Qwest Chairman and CEO, Joseph Nacchio.
