Edge IP routers to bolster slumping market

The Switching & Routing Forecast Report from RHK Inc. says the market dipped from $7.8 billion in 2000 to $6.9 billion in 2001.
MAPCOM launches cable-mapping unit

The mapping software maker says the new unit will focus on a complete, Windows-based, GPS-centric system and street map overlay for an OSS platform. The company produces automated mapping applications based on geographic positioning systems and geographical information systems.
China Telecom taps Alcatel for expansion

Alcatel did not disclose the amount, but noted it was "multimillion dollar." Under the deal, Alcatel will deploy its Lambda Gate system in four key sites, interconnecting the network, it says.

The tax-free, all-stock transaction would create an entity poised to compete with the swiftly merging cable industry, said Ergen, EchoStar chair and CEO.

HomeRF 2.0 intends to allow Internet access and phone call ability over a broadband connection. Winstar plan cuts 950 jobs, thinks sale

The plans include cutting 950 jobs and a potential sale or merger. Metromedia lands credit extension … sort of

Metromedia Fiber Netwok Inc. landed a $62.5 million credit extension from Citicorp, contingent on pulling in another $487.5 million from other sources, including $200 million in vendor financing. ADC to cut 2,500 more jobs; lower guidance

It will close several facilities and sell two of its units for an undisclosed sum. Chair and CEO Rick Roscitt said the company doesn't expect to reach its stated $600 million, low-end guidance. ADC also announced its anticipated pro forma loss of 5 cents a share.
