SpinCo recast as GreatLand Connections
Charter Communications and Comcast announced they were ditching the name SpinCo for the emerging cable company that will be spun off once the Comcast/Time Warner Cable merger and Charter/Comcast transactions are completed.
The new name is GreatLand Connections Inc.,which drew upon the company’s Midwest and Southeast footprint that was formely operated by Comcast. Once the new, independent, publicly-traded company is up and running, it will serve approximately 2.5 million customers, making it the fifth-largest cable operator in the nation.
"We are pleased to publicly announce the name of this exciting new company we are building," said GreatLand Connections President and CEO Michael Willner. "The name GreatLand Connections pays homage to the rich history and striking geographies of the diverse communities in which the company will operate.
“It brings to mind our commitment to connecting people and businesses with terrific products and excellent service in the almost 1,000 historic communities—large and small— across the 11 states we will serve."
Earlier this year, Comcast and Charter reached an agreement that included selling off 1.4 million Time Warner Cable subscribers to Charter, swapping 1.6 million subscribers between Comcast and Charter and spinning off the 2.5 subs to form SpinCo.
In May Comcast and Charter announced that former Insight Communications co-founder and CEO Michael Willner was appointed as SpinCo’s president and CEO.
