Vubiquity adds to VOD arsenal with FilmFlex buy
Multi-screen video vendor Vubiquity announced this morning that it was buying UK-based FilmFlex, the latter of which is one of the largest white label VOD and multiplatform providers outside of the United States.
Prior to the purchase, FilmFlex was a joint venture between Sony Pictures Television and The Walt Disney Company. Financial terms of the deal weren’t disclosed.
FilmFlex has laid claim to enabling more than 90 million transactions with its white label VOD services. Among others, FilmFlex has content deals in place with MGM, Lionsgate, Universal, The Walt Disney Company, and Sony Pictures, according to its website.
In addition to VOD assets, FilmFlex also provides digital storefronts to customers throughout the UK. FilmFlex said its customizable digital video storefront was in use by service providers and brands such as Virgin Media, TalkTalk, Film4 and EE. It also offers content aggregation and delivery to set-tops and connected devices through its licenses.

FilmFlex’s digital storefront, assets and video capabilities will be integrated with Vubiquity’s recently launched AnyVu Cloud platform, and offered as part of the suite of modular services available to its customers.

In 2009, Avail Media merged with TVN Entertainment to form Avail-TVN. After a $100 million round of funding two years ago, Avail-TVN bought SeaChange’s On Demand Group and rebranded the combined companies as Vubiquity a year later.
