Cablevision using analytics to improve operations
Cablevision Systems has promoted Gemma Toner to senior vice president, business insights and strategy, a new position that indicates the increasing importance that data mining and business analytics will have in Cablevision’s management of its mature market.
In a way, success is costing the MSO. It long since went all-digital, it is one of the pioneers rolling out cloud-based features and services, and its penetration rates are high.
If Toner’s new appointment is evidence, the company believes that one important means to future growth will be scrutinizing customer data and responding appropriately to customer behavior.
As the company explained it, Toner will be overseeing the business unit of the company responsible for applying data-driven insights, on an enterprise-wide basis, in response to business opportunities and challenges with a focus on developing a more sophisticated customer experience.
The appointment is effective immediately. Toner will report to Cablevision president Brian Sweeney.
Sweeney said, “Gemma has made enormously valuable contributions to Cablevision throughout her 24-year career with the company, leading a variety of successful initiatives that have elevated the quality of our services and created a more robust experience for our customers. As we continue to transform Cablevision into an even more agile and competitive organization, Gemma’s experience made her the clear choice to lead the transformation of data into actionable insights that can be incorporated across all of our business operations.”
Toner most recently was senior vice president of broadband product management, responsible for driving product strategy, product development, and day-to-day operations of the company’s IP-delivered services, including Optimum Online, Optimum Voice, Optimum WiFi, Optimum Business services, and MSG Varsity.
Toner has also held at Cablevision the roles of senior vice president of marketing and business development and senior vice president of high-speed data products. Additionally, she has served as senior vice president of new media, development for AMC, among other positions at the network.
