TiVo hires former Dish exec as CMO
TiVo has hired former Dish Network executive Ira Bahr as its new chief marketing officer.
Bahr, who will start his new job immediately, will be in charge of the company's global marketing efforts. He will be based TiVo's San Jose corporate headquarters and report directly to TiVo CEO and president Tom Rogers.
"Ira brings with him tremendous insight and deep strategic experience from his work with some of the largest media, entertainment and consumer brands in the world," Rogers said. "His successful track-record underscores a unique ability to communicate and market sometimes complex messages to consumers and he will play an important role as we continue to deliver the best TV experience to viewers around the world. We are extremely pleased to have Ira on board."
During his time as Dish’s chief marketing officer, Bahr oversaw the product planning and marketing for the company’s Hopper whole-home DVR service that was launched two years ago at CES. He also oversaw the roll out of the company’s first mobile applications on iOS and Android devices.
Bahr’s other duties at Dish included customer acquisition, customer loyalty, customer technology, corporate communications and Latino marketing activities.
Prior to Dish, Bahr led strategic marketing for Sirius Satellite Radio. As that company's 12th employee, he oversaw many facets of business development, marketing, programming and operations and was responsible for the creation of the Sirius name and corporate identity.
Most recently he served as the chief marketing officer for Inspirato, a luxury destination club.
"TiVo is one of the most famous trademarks in America and its products are some of the most loved consumer electronics ever developed. There is a clear opportunity for TiVo to help shape the future of video consumption and I am elated to be a part of it," said Bahr.
Last month RCN became the first cable operator to launch the Opera TV store on TiVo DVRs. The Opera TV Store uses a cloud platform to deliver a wide range of HTML5-based apps and over-the-top (OTT) content to various devices, including TiVo DVRs.
