Time Warner Cable to launch Epix channels

Starting March 18, Time Warner Cable will offer four channels from Epix, and give its digital basic tier customers a free three-month trial. The four channels are Epix, Epix 2, Epix 3 and Epix Drive-in.

Epix will be available in HD and SD, and on Time Warner Cable’s VOD service, while Epix Drive-In will be offered in SD. Additional movies, original documentaries, music and comedy events will be available online and on mobile devices via the Epix app.

“We’re very pleased to launch Epix on linear channels, VOD and through their app and are excited to provide our customers with access to this new source of top quality movie and original content through all Time Warner Cable platforms,” said Jeffrey Hirsch, executive vice president and chief marketing/ sales officer- residential services at Time Warner Cable. “This is yet another way of showing that we appreciate our customers’ loyalty and are consistently working hard to provide even more value to their service.”

Time Warner Cable subscribers will have access to shows such as “The Hunger Games,” and “Skyfall” as well as movies, including “Star Trek Into Darkness,” and “The Avengers.” The content will be available across a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets and game consoles.

Epix is jointly-owned by Viacom’s Paramount, MGM and Lionsgate. Late last year, Viacom signed a carriage agreement with Time Warner Cable and today's announcement was a follow up to that agreement. 

Cox Communications trialed its TV Everywhere service with Epix four years ago. Epix also has deals in place with Charter Communications, Dish Network, Mediacom Communications, NCTC, Suddenlink Communications and Verizon. Epix currently doesn’t have distribution agreements in place with Comcast, AT&T and DirecTV, among others.

Financial terms of Epix's deal with Time Warner Cable weren’t available.
