Finnish op DNA fires up multi-screen service
Finnish telecommunications provider DNA has launched an on-demand television service, relying on SeaChange International as system integrator.
The system is built on SeaChange’s Adrenalin multi-screen platform. Other vendors and the technology they contributed included SF Anytime content, Harmonic transcoding, Edgeware streaming and storage, ATES single sign-on, Conax conditional access, Cubiware set-top client, and Intek set-tops.
The service, DNA Welho Entertainment (DNA Welho Viihde), is up and running, available to over 600,000 households connected to DNA's cable network, and to anyone living within reach of DNA's terrestrial TV network, altogether covering 85 percent of Finnish households.
DNA Welho Viihde allows viewers to watch television shows independent of time and place. The service includes a movie rental store, backed by SF Anytime, with thousands of movies from major studios.
Mikko Saarentaus, DNA’s director of television business, said his company intends to build on the multi-screen, on-demand service. "SeaChange Adrenalin is massively scalable for a multi-platform, multi-screen future, and allows us to effectively build on top of DNA Welho Viihde as we progress toward fulfilling our mission as the preferred provider of multi-platform television entertainment in Finland. We'll also have the resources and reliability of SeaChange's elite system integration and support workforce."
