Shaw deploying Arris' universal edge QAM

Shaw Communications has deployed Arris’ universal edge QAM to support its TV everywhere operations, specifically for support delivering content from its video-on-demand (VOD) libraries.

Arris’ Apex3000 is an ultra-high density QAM is expandable to deliver up to 1,532 individual streams of on-demand content.

Arris has designed the Apex3000 to be software upgradeable to become part of a modular Converged Cable Access Platform (CCAP).

Jay Mehr, executive vice president and chief operating officer, Shaw Communications, said, "Deploying the Arris technology and hardware helps us deliver an exceptional experience today, while giving us the capacity and flexibility to grow in the future."

The Apex3000 Universal Edge QAM is fully redundant, and enables the delivery of VOD and DOCSIS services to a single, combined RF port. The system has GigE ingest capacity.

Shaw serves 3.2 million customers.
