Time Warner Cable rings up two new phone features

Time Warner Cable has added two new, free features to its phone service. The first, “Answer Anytime,” provisions home phone calls to mobile devices or office lines in order to not miss any calls while the second, “Selective Call Acceptance,” weeds out unwanted callers.

Time Warner Cable’s Chris Monfette, manager, content development, wrote about the new features on the company’s corporate blog page.

“With the new Answer Anywhere service, TWC home phone subscribers will be able to have calls made to their home ring through simultaneously to five different numbers such as their work line or mobile,” Monfette wrote. “The caller ID information will be forwarded to each device, allowing users to screen their calls as effectively on-the-go as they can in their own home.

“The incoming call will be routed to whichever line answers first, making the first device to pick up the only line able to answer. Any voicemail messages will go to whichever of the VM-enabled devices picks up after the fewest rings. Answer Anywhere offers customers the convenience of the family line in virtually any location throughout the day.

The Selective Call Acceptance feature allows users to manage a list of up to 30, 10-digit phone numbers that will be allowed to ring through to customers’ home phones. The feature allows users to add their families, colleagues and friends, but leave out unwanted callers. If a number is not accepted, the callers hear a special message notifying them that the party they are calling is not currently accepting calls.
