Telus is progressing with its integration of its wireline and wireless networks with the adoption of IP Multimedia Subsystem technology. Telus has contracted with Ericsson to install its IMS systems, which will enable Telus to offer voice, data and video calling over both networks to customers across Canada.

Telus claims more than 12 million customer connections. With the installation of IMS technology, its customers will have the ability to access a variety of multimedia functions and applications including High Definition voice, management across multiple devices, and video calling over LTE, Ericsson said.

IMS will enable Telus to generate new revenue streams through differentiated services based on the Rich Communication Services (RCS) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE). Ericsson will not only supply equipment and software, but also act as systems integrator.

Eros Spadotto, executive vice-president, technology strategy and operations, Telus said, “Harnessing the power of IMS technology is something we're very excited about as it will enable us to offer next-generation solutions that transform the way our customers live, work, and play".

Ericsson claims over 110 commercial IMS contracts worldwide, of which around 70 are in commercial operation.
