NimbleTV tunes up TVE service in NYC area
After more than a year of beta testing, NimbleTV’s cloud-based TV Everywhere service is live in the New York City metropolitan area.
NimbleTV provisions video, including video content from users that have pay-TV subscriptions with RCN, Time Warner Cable, Verizon and Cablevision, over the Internet to devices such as Apple iOS phones and tablets, Roku boxes and Web-enabled TVs and browsers. NimbleTV plans on adding support for Android devices.
NimbleTV launched a trial of its service in New York using Dish Network. NimbleTV supports the cable operators’ services in the New York City area, but has no official affiliation with any cable or satellite service providers
NimbleTV comes in two flavors. With the “add on” offering, cable operator subscribers can access their favorite local cable programming — including cloud-based local news, sports and major networks— on NimbleTV for an additional $3.99 a month with the first month free.
Once cable subscribers in the New York area sign up, NimbleTV verifies their cable log in credentials, which gives NimbleTV a more agreeable tie-in with MSOs than Aereo’s over-the-air approach.
NimbleTV also has three offerings of its “concierge service,” starting at $29.98 and featuring more than 130 local, premium and national cable channels. NimbleTV is offering the first week of its concierge service for free. Both services include cloud-based HD-DVR with large amounts of recording space.
Unlike Aereo’s antennas, NimbleTV’s service doesn’t require hardware. NimbleTV also doesn’t require long-term commitments from its users and they can cancel at anytime.
"TV today is everywhere – it's all over the place, and it's a mess," said Anand Subramanian, founder and CEO of NimbleTV. "Our goal is to make TV easy again for consumers, while doing it in a way that supports the industry. Our approach simply improves existing pay TV – it does not displace it."
