Universal Sports Network sticks distribution agreement with Verizon
With a new multi-year agreement in hand, Universal Sports Network’s programming is now available in HD to Verizon’s FiOS customers across the nation.
Over the coming months, Verizon subscribers will also be able to watch Universal Sports Network, which includes Olympic, adventure and endurance sports programming, on a variety of portable devices outside of their homes.
“We’re pleased that Verizon FiOS customers are now able to enjoy the world class events Universal Sports Network brings to our sports offering,” Ryan Gillette, director, content strategy and acquisition for Verizon, said. “We look forward to offering the content beyond the TV to a variety of portable devices used by our customers in the near future.”
Universal Sports HD is available to all Verizon subscribers as part of its Sports Pass. The Sports Pass package includes over a dozen channels, and is available for $9.99 per month. FiOS TV Ultimate customers have access to Sports Pass at no additional charge.
Universal Sports Network coverage includes World Aquatics Championships, the Boston Marathon, Alpine Ski World Cup, World Figure Skating Championships, Vuelta a España, Kona Ironman and Rugby Sevens World Cup. Universal Sports is a partnership between Comcast’s NBC Sports and InterMedia Partners.

Last month Universal Sports Network announced it has a distribution deal in place with Cox Communications, which also included TV Everywhere rights. Time Warner Cable and Cox offer Universal Sports in HD while Dish Network and DirecTV carry it in SD. Currently, AT&T, Comcast and Charter don’t offer Universal Sports to their subscribers.
