IBC: RGB Networks tunes in Dolby for TVE
RGB Networks has added Dolby Laboratories’ Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus codecs into its TransAct Packager to improve audio on TV Everywhere services.
With the partnership, video service providers (VSPs) using adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming will be able to offer improved sound across tablets, smartphones, PCs, connected TVs and other IP-enabled devices.
RGB cited two factors that were driving the push for better sound. The first is that small-screen devices are increasingly capable of delivering enhanced sound quality. The second factor is that consumers with large-screen, HD TVs connected to home theatre systems are increasingly using these to view video service providers’ ABR-based TV Everywhere offerings. To address this convergence, VSPs need to deliver the same high-quality viewing and listening experience on subscribers’ home theatres as well as their mobile devices.
“While viewing on small-screen devices is certainly growing rapidly, consumers are by no means abandoning their living room TVs and expensive home theaters which provide a premium video experience,” said Simone Sassoli, vice president, marketing and business development for RGB Networks. “By partnering with audio leader Dolby to incorporate support for Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound into our TransAct Packager, we are helping video service providers deliver the best audio and video experience across all screens.”
