Australia’s largest electronics retailer is selling video on DVDs and Blu-ray disks accompanied by access rights through the UltraViolet digital rights locker.

JB Hi-Fi is using the CSG Content Direct system from CSG Systems International to enable its UltraViolet online storefront in Australia and New Zealand.

JB Hi-Fi is packaging DVDs and Blu-ray disks with redemption codes for UV access. Customers go online to register their purchases, which can then be streamed or downloaded to a number of devices. CSG Content Direct supports a sign-up process that allows consumers to create a JB Hi-Fi digital content login that automatically generates an UltraViolet account.

Consumers can stream content from the cloud or manage their content library across a range of devices including PC, Mac, Android, iPhone, and iPad, after downloading the JB Hi-Fi Video Now app.

“JB Hi-Fi wanted to be first to market with UltraViolet to sustain our brand leadership,” said George Papadopoulos, technology director for JB Hi-Fi. “We chose CSG Content Direct because CSG was the only company that could meet our aggressive UV launch schedule and deliver the kind of world-class content experience we wanted for our customers.”

CSG said it took 8 weeks to implement the content management solution for JB Hi-Fi, including UltraViolet digital copy redemption, rights management, and both online and download access to content.

JB Hi-Fi has more than 180 stores and claims being the leader in DVD and Blu-Ray sales in Australia.
