Verizon Digital Media adds live event distribution

Verizon Digital Media Services has launched the ability to broadcast live events, complementing its video platform’s existing ability to distribute linear and on-demand content.

Verizon Digital Media Services caters to enterprise customers, including other MVPDs. The company cut an exclusive deal with Accenture’s Origin Digital operation to enable the new service, called Verizon Live Events.

Live Events can acquire event feeds from any source – including satellite, terrestrial fiber and Internet – then transcode and deliver the content to broadcasters and other commercial customers. The service also provides proactive monitoring and redundancy over Verizon's global network.

Verizon said it has multiple facilities dedicated to enabling 24/7 channel acquisition and prep for over the top delivery to multiscreen audiences.  The company said it provides automated scheduling, redundancy for Flash and HLS streams over its network, and the ability to scale for multiple live feeds.

"This combination offers a single solution for a wide range of live events – from multinational sporting events to breaking news and business meetings to concerts and red-carpet premieres."
