Ukrainian operator to use Envivio's encoders for OTT service
Volia, Ukraine's top pay TV operator, has selected Envivio Muse transcoders for its new over-the-top (OTT) Internet TV services. Volia expects to use the capability to compete not only within its footprint, but to provide competitive OTT services outside its operating area.
Volia's transcoding solution runs on the 4Caster G4 platform, Envivio's high performance computing appliance for broadcast and multi-screen video processing.
The Volia Smart HD OTT video service--encompassing more than 130 channels--is available to more than 1.5 million households across its footprint of over 29 cities throughout Ukraine.
"We chose the Envivio Muse encoders to power the Volia Smart HD service because Envivio offered outstanding video quality and a flexible architecture based on software," said Alexander Hnyduik, CTO of Volia.
"This flexibility is important as we integrate our payTV and OTT platforms and serve a larger number of viewers around the country who want to enjoy a more personalized, anytime, anywhere TV experience."
Envivio Muse transcoders incorporate built-in interfaces to all major content delivery network (CDN) and conditional access system (CAS) providers, which enable faster time-to-market for OTT video deployments. Designed for 24x7 TV services delivered over cable, satellite, managed or unmanaged IP networks, Muse compresses TV signals to any format or resolution--including MPEG-2, H.264 and HEVC (H.265), the company said.
It also supports advanced functionalities such as ad insertion, audio level adjustment, video quality measurement and image processing.
