Vecima Networks said Sumit Kumar will become CEO of the company effective August 1. With Vecima since 1995, Kumar has been consistently promoted since joining the company, from vice president corporate strategy (2006-09), to executive vice president (2009-11), to president (2011-13).
The company said Kumar’s promotion completes a multi-year process of succession planning and preparation for the retirement of the company's current CEO, Surinder Kumar. Surinder Kumar will remain as non-executive chairman of the board.
Coincident with the promotion of Sumit Kumar, Vecima COO Hugh Wood announced his intention to retire at the end of July.
The company said that Wood had been working a reduced schedule for the past few years, gradually transferring day-to-day responsibilities to Marshall Sali, senior vice president, operations. Sali had been director of operations (2008-09) and senior vice president, operations since 2009. Wood will continue on as a member of the Board of Directors.
Vecima also announced the appointment of Dean Rockwell to its Board of Directors. Rockwell has experience in the areas of general management, sales & marketing, product management, research and development, and operations. He is currently the CEO of In Motion Technology. Before joining In Motion Technology, he was COO of Pulse Energy, CEO of the British Columbia Innovation Council (BCIC) and vice president and general manager of the worldwide Digital Media Networks business unit within Cisco Systems.
