A voluminous source of multiscreen content has come available to a wider set of viewers with NBC Sports Group’s initiation of streaming live video to a set of multichannel video program distributors (MVPDs). The service is available to authenticated subscribers of Cablevision, Comcast Xfinity TV, Suddenlink and Verizon FiOS.

NBC Sports Group said additional cable, satellite and telco providers are expected to soon be able to offer the service, called NBC Sports Live Extra.

The 2013 NBC Sports Network live-event programming roster includes the remainder of the NHL regular season, the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Final; Premier League and Major League Soccer matches; Formula One and IndyCar races; horse racing that surrounds the Triple Crown; and more.

The first NBC Sports Network event to be live streamed was last night’s NHL game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins. This weekend’s slate of events to be streamed live on NBC Sports Live Extra via TV Everywhere includes:

  • Formula One’s Chinese Grand Prix on Sunday
  • Road to the Kentucky Derby horse racing featuring the Arkansas Derby on Saturday
  • MLS matches featuring Los Angeles at Dallas on Saturday and San Jose at Portland on Sunday
  • The NHL game between the Nashville Predators and the Detroit Red Wings.

NBC Sports Digital has been streaming select live events that air on NBC for years, including Sunday Night Football, Notre Dame Football, the NHL Game of the Week, and some Stanley Cup Playoff games. Golf Channel has been live streaming PGA TOUR events since January 2013 via TV Everywhere on Golf Live Extra.
