Cox cues up Android devices for TV Everywhere app
Cox Communications announced this morning that its Cox TV Connect app now supports Amazon's Kindle Fire, Google's Nexus and Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2 and Note tablets.
Prior to the addition of Android devices today, Cox’s app worked with iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices. Adding more tablets into the mix gives Cox customers the opportunity to enjoy their video content on second screens within their homes.
“Tablets have really changed the game in terms of the way people view television," said Len Barlik, executive vice president of product management and development. "Our customers want more than the traditional living room experience. We continue to evolve our products to meet customers' changing needs, connecting them to the things they care about in ways that are easy to use and reliable."
Cox’s TV Everywhere service made its debut near the end of 2011. Since then the Cox TV Connect app for iPad and iPhone has been downloaded more than 500,000 times. Cox uses its own content delviery network to delvier the video over its private network.
The channel lineup for the app includes History Channel, Discovery, A & E, TNT, HGTV and CNN.
Customers with Apple devices can download Cox TV Connect from the Apple iTunes store while subscribers with the Kindle Fire can download the app from the Amazon app store or for Nexus and Galaxy users from the Google Play store.
