Videotron raises data speeds, passes 500K mark for video service
Canadian cable operator Videotron announced it was increasing the upload speeds and data caps for most of its Ultimate Speed Internet data plans and that it passed the 500,000 customer mark for its revamped illico TV service.
On the data side, Videotron will introduce a new Ultimate Speed Internet 15 offering on April 17, as well as increased speeds and data caps for most of its other Ultimate Speed Internet tiers.
Ultimate Speed Internet 15 service has download speeds of 15 Mbps, upload speeds of 10 Mbps and a monthly data limit of 75 GB, starting at $50.95 per month.
For a limited time over the coming weeks, Videotron’s customers that subscribe to three or more of its bundled services can sign up for an unlimited data add-on to their Internet access plan for an additional $10 per month. Customers with one or two Videotron services can get the unlimited data add-on for $30 per month. Customers must be subscribed to Videotron’s video service to qualify for the add-on.
“Videotron is always striving to meet its customers’ fast-changing needs,” said Manon Brouillette, president of the consumer market at Videotron. “Our innovative teams are developing powerful, reliable products in order to deliver the best-possible customer experience. That is why we have decided to upgrade our line of services by increasing connection speeds.”
Business subscribers to any Videotron Internet access plan will receive the add-on at no extra charge.
Business Internet access plans will also be upgraded, as the upload speeds on the Ultimate Speed Internet 20, 30 and 60 plans will be increased to 10 Mbps.
In March of last year, Videotron upgraded its illico TV platform with a set of new tru2way-based interactive features co-developed with Alticast and set-tops from Cisco.
More than 500 Videotron employees worked on creating the illico TV next-generation platform, which is now in front of more than 500,000 subscribers.
"The service, which is available to all of our customers across our Québec-wide service area, is now delivering the best-possible technological and entertainment experience to half a million customers, day after day," Brouillette said.
