Former Rogers exec O’Carroll joins Sandvine’s board
Former Rogers Communications executive Dermot O’Carroll, who retired from Rogers last year, has joined Sandvine’s board of directors.
O’Carroll had almost 40 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, including 15 years at Rogers, before he retired in May. O’Carroll held the post of senior vice president of network engineering and operations at Rogers prior to his retirement.
“Sandvine’s customers are some of the most innovative communications service providers in the world. Dermot’s elite experience in the industry will help ensure that the company’s strategy and focus are guided by the ‘voice of the customer,'” said Roger Maggs, chairman of Sandvine’s board of directors.
At Rogers, O’Carroll was responsible for the technology, planning, engineering and operation of the company’s cable and wireless access networks, and for the integrated IP and transport networks.
He oversaw the rebuilding of the entire cable network; the building and implementation of Rogers’ network operations center; and the introduction of new technologies, such as Internet over cable, interactive digital television, VOD, digital phone service using PacketCable architecture and, most recently, switched digital video.
O’Carroll joined Rogers in November of 1995 after five years of working with Unitel Communications and another 15 before that with Bell Canada.
