ActiveVideo announced the launch of its CloudTV Access developer’s program at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

The developer program was conceived to boost the design and deployment of HTML5-based user experiences on ActiveVideo’s CloudTV platform. ActiveVideo said the CloudTV Access program could cut the time to market for apps by as much as 80 percent for connected device manufacturers and virtual service providers, as well as cable and IPTV operators.

The program was designed to help developers who are experienced with HTML5 development on the Web make the transition to television while providing them with the CloudTV tools and resources needed to quickly create cross-platform HTML5 user experiences that can be scalably streamed to any device.

“Our ability to create the ideal mix of device and cloud resources has resulted in a platform that completely changes the economics of television content creation,” said David McElhatten, senior vice president, studio and services for ActiveVideo Networks.  “CloudTV H5 ensures that developers have the fastest-possible development environment for rich, low-bandwidth user experiences on any smart TV, connected device or set-top box.”

CloudTV is available on more than 10 million devices in the United States and abroad with Cablevision Systems, Ziggo, Oceanic Time Warner Cable and other operators, as well as on Philips-brand NetTVs, and is also powering advanced user experiences for Net2TV, a virtual service provider. ActiveVideo previously announced that Comcast was using CloudTV in an enhanced video-on-demand (VOD) user experience trial.
