Bright House Networks has increased the download speed of its top data tier to 60 Mbps across its footprint, while offering small- and medium-size businesses a new speed of 70 Mbps.

Bright House Networks’ DOCSIS 3.0-based Lightning Internet service increased from 40 Mbps to 60 Mbps on the downstream while maintaining 5 Mbps on the upstream. The business wideband offering also has 5 Mbps up.

Bright House Networks, which is the nation's sixth-largest cable operator, first launched its wideband service in Tampa Bay – where it competes against Verizon – in 2009.

The data tiers also include enhanced email, online security, public Wi-Fi, McAfee Antivirus, parental controls and 24-hour customer support and generally cost $5 more per month, depending on a customer’s current service level.

In addition, Bright House Networks’ Turbo High-Speed Internet now has download speeds of up to 30 Mbps instead of the previous 20 Mbps.

Time Warner Cable, which often works in concert with Bright House Networks, increased the speeds of some of its tiers, as well.
