Suddenlink has made Lubbock, Tex., its first multi-screen market, allowing customers to watch live TV channels as well as recorded material on on iPod Touches, iPads and iPhones

After having distributed TiVo-based boxes to the vast majority of its customers earlier this year, Suddenlink continues to introduce new TiVo-powered services. Earlier this year, it was multi-room DVR.

Lubbock is the first community to get TiVo Streams through a cable company, TiVo said.

TiVo introduced its TiVo Stream box earlier this year. The separate router streams content directly from TiVo’s Premiere DVRs to Apple devices. The $129 box has been available through retail channels for several months.

Current Suddenlink customers now can get a TiVo Stream device to add to their home network as a companion to their TiVo Premiere DVR. It enables simultaneous viewing of live or recorded shows on up to four mobile devices without interrupting what is currently playing on TV.

Suddenlink said that Android devices and access to video-on-demand (VOD) content would be added later.

In addition to streaming TV channels to Apple mobile devices inside the home, it also allow users to transfer many DVR recordings to these devices for viewing anywhere. This ability is dependent entirely on whether service providers have negotiated the appropriate rights; the ability to transfer some programs to these devices may be prohibited by the program owners, TiVo cautioned.

“With TiVo Stream we’re giving our customers even more flexibility to watch TV programs wherever they choose,” said Dave Gilles, senior vice president of operations for Suddenlink’s West Region.  “With support for up to four streams at once, members of the family can watch various live shows in the house, the garage or backyard on TVs or mobile devices, and transfer many shows from their TiVo Premiere DVRs to smartphones and tablets for later viewing anywhere they are and at any time they want.”
