Power solutions vendor Alpha Technologies announced this morning that it had acquired Cheetah Technologies for an undisclosed sum. Alpha said it would keep the doors open on Cheetah’s Pittsburg facility. In addition to serving similar market sectors and mutual customers, the two companies have collaborated on outside plant power supply monitoring for “several decades.”
RCN Business has launched a new app that lets its business customer employees stay connected with their office phones when they’re on the go. The Business Office Mobility app, which is a new feature from RCN Businesses’ hosted voice and business phone with call manager products, works with both iOS and Android devices.
Suddenlink Communications has added programming from CBS, which is currently the nation’s top-rated broadcast network, to its VOD primetime lineup. With CBS in the fold, Suddenlink now offers free on demand programming from all four major broadcast networks, which also includes ABC, Fox and NBC.

Charter Communications has launched its first national philanthropic project, which was designed to improve 25,000 low-income homes across its footprint by 2020. The program, which is called “Charter our Community,” will impact 10 percent of the 250,000 low-income families in Charter communities living in homes deemed unsafe and unhealthy by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD.)
The Wireless Broadband Alliance's annual survey reported that 70 percent of the respondents said their main motivation for deploying carrier grade Wi-Fi in their systems was to improve the customer experience and increase subscriber retention. Cable over builder RCN has beefed up its Music Choice videos by adding more than 3,000 new options on its VOD platform. The new Music Choice videos and original shows, which are available to RCN’s digital TV subscribers for free, represented a five-fold increase over RCN’s previous library.

A report by the Nebraska Information Technology Commission calls for on the state to use the state's universal service fund to create new infrastructure, and to partner with libraries and colleges to help teach Internet skills to those who aren't frequent users. Money from the fund comes from a state fee tacked onto consumers' telephone bills.
Vodafone is evaluating the possibility of a merger with or acquisition of Liberty Global, according to reports quoting unnamed Vodafone insiders. True or not, the rumor is having an effect: the value of Vodafone stock was driven down as much as 4 percent in London, while the value of Liberty Global was lifted by over 7 percent in New York.

Intel Corp. said Monday that it bought PasswordBox, a service that saves and remembers passwords so that users can log into different websites without having to remember or type in their passwords. The Santa Clara, California-based chip maker did not disclose financial details of the deal.
UTStarcom is targeting the North American cable operator market with its system for offloading wireless traffic onto a Wi-Fi network. The solution, in use for over a year in other markets, includes a carrier class Wi-Fi AC which supports more than 120,000 access points and over 1.3 million subscribers within a single chassis.
