Dish is preparing “something big” and looking for a new CMO as it moves forward with a plan to become the “only provider that can offer wireless voice, video and data,” according to a Dish document obtained by Yahoo Finance.

Chromecast is now streaming content from CBS, FOX, and HGTV, and free live video through Pluto TV, and Haystack. The $30 streaming stick has been on the market for two years, and competing streaming service providers include YouTube, Hulu, HBO Go, Netflix, and Plex.

Video subscriber growth tanks; cable kills in broadband

This year’s Q1 was the weakest quarter for pay-TV net additions in ten years while broadband subscription was up by 1.2 million net additions. Cable’s broadband performance over the last year was dominating.

Comcast NBCUniversal will hire 10,000 veterans, reservists, and their spouses or domestic partners over the next three years. The company has created the position of VP of military and veterans initiatives to manage all programs, and outreach efforts related to the military and veteran community.

Dish, Cogent, and several advocacy groups cosigned a letter to the FCC requesting the commission impose conditions on AT&T’s $48.5 million merger with DirecTV.

Lagging cable sales scuff Cisco's Q3 results

The company reported that orders in its service provider segment decreased 7 percent globally; U.S. service provider (SP) orders – largely the cable business – declined 17 percent. John Chambers, in his last conference call as Cisco CEO, vowed to turn that business around.

Cox sues AT&T, claims U-verse violates key patents

Cox Communications is suing AT&T, claiming that AT&T’s U-verse violates three of its patents. The suit leaves it to the court to set damages. Given the fundamental nature of the patents involved, the potential amount could be substantial.

AT&T to integrate Hulu into its own apps

Hulu continued on its roll, adding AT&T to the growing list of distributors offering their customers direct access to the streaming TV service. AT&T said that later this year, its customers will be able to access Hulu through AT&T websites and also on mobile devices through AT&T apps.

Industry asks Appeals Court to stay Title II order

The petitioners include the NCTA and ACA, representing the cable industry, along with USTA, CTIA, AT&T, CenturyLink, and WISPA. This was the entirely expected next step after the FCC rejected similar petitions from pretty much the same group.

Comcast’s portfolio of fiber-based Ethernet services is now available to businesses in Portland. These fiber-based services include an Ethernet network reaching 10 Gbps.

Cablevision, ESPN in ad data pact

Cablevision has entered an agreement with ESPN and Disney that gives ESPN access to the census-level audience data from Cablevision’s set-top boxes. Disney will also be able to use the data for advertising purposes for its other networks.

CenturyLink now offers Prism TV to some residents and businesses in Portland, OR. The company is currently pursuing discussions with local officials to obtain franchise agreements in Seattle.

Adtran easing the way to 40G PON

Adtran said it has figured out a means of deploying the optical elements of PON flexibly, so that implementing the latest 40 Gbps NG-PON2 technology will be almost as affordable as installing today’s 2.5 Gbps G-PON technology.
