Adara Technologies said Darien Communications in Georgia is using its hosted and managed switched digital video (SDV) service to enable the addition of hundreds of HD channels, as well as other services long the province of larger operators.

With the deployment of hybrid set-top boxes and a new user interface, Darien is also set to roll out whole-home DVR, social TV, advanced search and other services traditionally associated with the latest Tier 1 IPTV implementations.

Darien Communications, a subsidiary of Darien Telephone, is a triple-play service provider with approximately 3,000 subscribers in southeast Georgia.

“We know that having a committed partner like Adara is better for us and better for our customers,” said Johnny Zoucks, Darien Communications’ COO. “For us, this partnership means reduced costs and risk, and we are very excited about quickly delivering new customer services and experiences.”

Adara’s hosted and managed video system will be on display at The Independent Show, which is being hosted by the National Cable Telecommunications Cooperative (NCTC) in Orlando July 20-25. It is applicable to operators with either Motorola or Cisco headends. The solution incorporates SDV technology in a cloud-delivered implementation to cost-effectively enable the delivery of hundreds, even thousands, of HD channels.

Though operators can keep their installed base of set-tops in place, Adara is also able to provide Cisco’s advanced, Web-connected set-top boxes with an advanced, next-generation UI for interactive Web applications, widgets and provider-controlled over-the-top (OTT) content services.

“At first I was worried about losing control to Adara's hosted solution," said Will White, IT manager for Darien Communications. “Adara demonstrated their Utilities Portal, and it is a great set of tools for remote diagnostics, reporting and control. We are looking forward to better control of Darien Communications’ future through improved customer service, fewer truck rolls, faster problem resolution MTTR and proactive problem detection.”
