Knology adds 11 HD channels in Auburn; WOW vote tomorrow
While Knology shareholders are slated to vote tomorrow on whether to accept WideOpenWest’s $1.7 billion merger offer, the cable over-builder recently added 11 HD channels in its Auburn, Ala., system.
Several years ago, Knology embarked on a “tuck in” acquisition strategy to buy small, adjoining systems, but the Auburn system was started from scratch in 2010 and opened for business a year later.
The same area is also served by Charter Communications. A spokesman for Knology said it planned on having the majority of its Auburn system completed by the end of this year.
The new HD channels in Auburn are: CW, ESPNews, BET, TruTV, Bio, CMT, MTV, Comedy Central, Spike, IFC and Sportsman Channel.
“We are excited to announce these channel additions for our Auburn customers, further demonstrating our commitment to providing customers with quality service and viewing options,” said Royce Ard, vice president of sales and marketing for Knology.
Ard has previously said that the new HD channels are the result of ongoing bandwidth optimization efforts by Knology, and not due to an analog-to-digital conversion project.
Earlier this month, two proxy advisory firms recommended that Knology stockholders approve the deal put forth by WideOpenWest during a special meeting of shareholders that is slated for tomorrow.
The merger, which is expected to close this fall, was first proposed April 18.
