Time Warner Cable subscribers in New York City, Dallas and Charlotte, N.C., can tune into their favorite sports networks for live programming of local and regional sporting events on a range of devices, including Android 4.0 smartphones, tablets, iPads, iPods, PCs and Macs.

The sports channels are available at no additional cost through Time Warner Cable’s TWC TV app and through its browser-based TWCTV.com Web portal for PCs and Macs. Earlier this week, Time Warner Cable announced that live streaming is now available on Android smartphones and tablets that use the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The nation’s second-largest cable operator released a live TV app for the iPhone in January, while the live TV iPad app became available in March of last year.

In order to view the live sports channels, customers have to subscribe to Time Warner Cable’s expanded basic or higher tiers, as well as be a Road Runner broadband subscriber – or use a Time Warner Cable-managed data service, or use a Time Warner Cable-provided, video-only cable modem.

Customers can download the mobile app from the App Store or Google Play, launch it, and then log in and scroll through the channel lineup to select preferred programming. They can also watch TWC TV from any computer in their home by logging in online using their TWC username and password.

The following networks are now available:

  • New York City (except for Hudson Valley) – ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, YES, SNY, MSG, MSG+, MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network
  • Dallas – ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Fox Sports Southwest, MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network
  • Charlotte – ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Fox Sports Carolinas, SportSouth, MLB Network, NBA TV, NHL Network.

“We’re very pleased that we’ve been able to solve the technical issues surrounding blackouts in these three markets,” said Mike Angus, senior vice president and general manager of video for Time Warner Cable. “We’re also working hard with our industry partners to implement a broader technical solution that will enable us to deliver more sports programming on TWC TV in additional markets.”
