Rovi extends IPG patent license agreement with NDS
Rovi announced this morning that it has extended its license agreement with NDS Group to allow NDS to continue to use its interactive program guide (IPG) patent portfolio for an additional five years.
With the extension, NDS will be able to continue to provide IPG and related technologies under the Rovi patents to its customers. The extension includes new, additional rights under the Rovi patents for secondary screens such as mobile devices, tablets and online applications.
Financial terms of the new deal weren’t available.
"We believe our customers benefit from having the option to license Rovi's IPG patents alongside NDS' own leading technology and service offerings and are therefore pleased to extend our license agreement with Rovi,” said Gorm Nielsen, senior vice president of strategy and business development at NDS.
NDS wrapped up the extension with Rovi while it waits to be acquired by Cisco for $5 billon in a deal that is expected to close in the second half of this year.
