Australia-based OptiComm will use cable modem termination systems from Casa Systems to build out the country’s first wholesale, DOCSIS 3.0-based HFC network to deliver data services.

The terms of the multi-year agreement called for Casa Systems to deliver its C2200 and C3200 cable modem termination systems (CMTSs) to all of OptiComm's markets in Australia to enable next-generation, high-speed services that will be offered by retail service providers.

"Casa Systems has provided OptiComm a platform that enables us to deliver Australia's first Layer 2, open access HFC solution, delivering speeds up to 100 Mbps to end users via multiple retail service providers," said Phil Smith, OptiComm's general manager of carrier relations and regulatory.

Established in 2005, OptiComm has agreements in place with the majority of Australia's leading property developers servicing residential estates, residential multi-dwelling units, business parks, shopping centers and age care facilities.

Andover, Mass.-based Casa Systems was the only CMTS vendor to receive full DOCSIS 3.0 certification and PacketCable 1.5 certification from CableLabs, but the bulk of its business to date has been overseas. Casa has also designed a universal edge QAM and other video processing solutions for broadcast and unicast services.

In March, retired SeaChange International CEO Bill Styslinger accepted a position on Casa’s board of directors.
