Cox Communications has laid claim to being the first cable operator in the nation to offer TEDTalks On Demand, which features lectures from well-known scientists, adventurers, artists, designers and storytellers.

The TEDTalks video content, which launched in local Cox markets yesterday, is available in Cox’s video-on-demand service at no additional cost to its subscribers.

Cox said that a lot of the TEDTalks video content would be available in HD.

TEDTalks, which has been viewed online more than 750 million times, is being introduced on cable in themed collections that allow audiences to browse TED “shows” across a wide variety of topics such as “building wonders,” “music revolution,” “rad invention,” “space trek” and more.

TED will add new TEDTalks and new shows for cable audiences throughout the year.
