Aurora wins SCTE Canadian Summit’s Technology Challenge

Aurora Networks' Remote QAMAurora Networks’ Remote QAM module took the top honors at the SCTE Canadian Summit’s Technology Challenge yesterday.

Aurora Networks edged out product offerings from Alcatel-Lucent, Metaswitch Networks, NDS Group and RGB Networks in the voting that was done by Canadian Summit attendees via text messaging.

All five of the entries were designed to provide cable system operators and content providers with new solutions for managing and delivering content and services across multiple devices, as well as ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.

“Effective bandwidth management is critical for all operators, and Aurora has made great strides in making this easier with their Remote QAM module,” said Rob Bazilewich, CTO of Westman Communications Group and co-chair of the Technology Challenge. “It is evident that the Technology Challenge audience saw how the capability and flexibility of the Aurora solution could garner great interest from the cable industry.”

Using technology that came with its purchase of GoBackTV last year, Aurora Networks’ Remote QAM module moves QAMs from the headend to the nodes. The Remote QAM module can deliver any mix of services – including broadcast, narrowcast, cable, IPTV and DOCSIS – in the same QAM channel, enabling operators to dynamically tailor services to local demands.

Aurora Networks said the Remote QAM gives cable operators dynamic flexibility in their networks while also reducing capital and operational expenses.
