Mediacom Communications has turned on the DOCSIS 3.0 spigot in several counties located in northern Iowa, as well as Albany, Georgia.
Mediacom, the nation's eighth-largest cable operator, recently launched its Ultra 50 DOCSIS-based tier, which features downstream speeds of up to 50 Mbps and upstream speeds of up to 5 Mbps, the Iowa counties of Cerro Gordo, Floyd, Franklin, Hancock, Mitchell, Winnebago and Worth, as well as in Albany.
Mediacom has its Ultra 50 and Ultra 105, with speeds up to 105 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, wideband tiers in 300 Iowa communities, according to a company spokesman.
Early last year, Mediacom started its analog-to-digital project in Cedar Rapids and surrounding communities before expanding it to other systems in its footprint. The all-digital conversions freed up additional bandwidth for the DOCSIS 3.0 launches, as well as the addition of more HD channel offerings.
