Arris demos converged video on universal QAM
Arris, Kabel Deutschland and Sony are conducting demonstrations of power-saving QAM-sharing at the Cable Congress show this week.
Kabel Deutschland is using Arris' D5 Universal Edge QAM to deliver DVB-C2 video to a Sony TV equipped with a DVB-C2 tuner.
The demonstration will show the delivery of both linear and VOD content.
The DVB-C2 standard employs an updated set of modulation and coding techniques to enable highly efficient use of cable networks, especially in cases where the downstream transmission capacity is already being used to its limit.
Kabel Deutschland is currently planning the delivery of the first digital TV services via DVB-C2.
Sony's television set is believed to be the first supporting that standard; it will be commercially available in Germany in April.
