Comcast Cable announced this morning that Amy Lynch is the company's new area vice president for Comcast California's Southwest Bay Area, which marked the first time a woman was picked to oversee the territory that includes Silicon Valley and the San Francisco peninsula.

In her new role, Lynch reports to Marty Robinson, vice president of technical operations for Comcast California. She will be responsible for a team of approximately 600 employees and will oversee the extensive Southwest Bay territory that stretches from San Francisco, through Santa Clara County and south to Monterey County.

Lynch will be based in the company's San Francisco office and replaces Ralph Martinez, who recently was named regional vice president of Comcast's Twin Cities Region in Minnesota.

Lynch most recently worked as area vice president for Comcast in southern Colorado and previously served in Comcast's Mile High Region as the general manager of the Colorado mountains, as well as area vice president of northern Colorado.

During her five-year tenure with the Mile High Region, Lynch led numerous initiatives, including facilitating the first-ever contract between Comcast and the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), which provided Comcast access and use of CDOT fiber.

"Amy's history of superior operating results, laser focus on customer service, exceptional analytical skills and successful employee engagement are a few of the many reasons that Comcast has entrusted her with one of our most valuable operating areas," Robinson said.

Lynch's appointment marked her return to California, where she previously served as director of sales and marketing for Comcast's former West Bay Area. She also was the regional vice president of sales and marketing in Comcast's Maryland territory before moving to Colorado.

Lynch began her career at Cox Communications and also held a variety of marketing and leadership positions at @Home Solutions/Excite@Home.

Lynch serves as an active member of Junior Achievement and Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT). She has completed many executive education courses, including the Comcast Corporate Executive Leadership Forum, the Comcast California Leadership Engagement and Advancement Program, and the Comcast West Division High Potential Program.
