Cablevision lost 28,000 video customers, 8,000 broadband subscribers, as Verizon FiOS enticed subscribers away with offers of the triple play priced as low as $69 a month. But Wi-Fi usage is increasing, and the MSO believes it may yet be turned into a key differentiator against competitors.
The CTO title is a new one at Cablevision. Cablevision had been looking for a top technology executive since May, when Yvette Kanouff, the company’s EVP of engineering, left to join Cisco as the head of its service provider video software and solutions (SPVSS) organization.

Small French carrier Iliad is offering $15 billion for a 56.6 percent stake in T-Mobile. Iliad owner Xavier Niel said the deal represents a 42-percent premium over T-Mobile's stock price at the time of the announcement. Iliad confirmed the deal already has backing from international banks.

C7 Data Centers is offering Comcast Business Ethernet services as a connectivity option for customers at C7’s new colocation data center. Comcast has signed a new contract with CSG International that provides the cable operator with CSG’s residential billing services through June 30, 2019. While CSG has worked with Comcast for the past 20 years, the new contract provides the framework for Comcast to consolidate all of its residential business onto CSG’s billing platform.
According to a recent report, the Layer 2-3 Ethernet Switch market is projected to approach $25 billon by 2018. The report by Dell’Oro Group said a 10 Gigabit Ethernet peak is anticipated before 2018 and then 100 Gigabit Ethernet was expected to become mainstream.

Time Warner Cable CEO Rob Marcus outlined several of the company’s top priorities during this morning’s second quarter earnings call, which included the announcement that seven cities are slated to receive TWC Maxx network upgrades next year. TWC Maxx, which features 300 Mbps on the downstream, will touch down in Charlotte, Dallas, Hawaii, Kansas City, Raleigh, San Antonio and San Diego.
