Charter Communications is going commercial with a whole-home solution using the TiVo Premiere box that it announced last January.

After months of trials, the service is now available to Charter customers in Texas, with a rollout across the rest of Charter's footprint in the first half of 2012.

The use of the TiVo box will allow Charter to present a unified view of content available through its own linear video and VOD content with content from over-the-top distributors. Charter specifically mentioned Pandora, YouTube "and more."

While some MSOs are doing little to encourage the use of services such as Hulu and Netflix, others, including Charter, are adopting an attitude of "if you can't beat them, join them" – essentially facilitating widespread customer behavior.

"The innovative technology that Charter enables has a profound impact on the sharing of information and enjoyment of entertainment," said Rich DiGeronimo, Charter senior vice president of product and strategy.

The service covers all of the same features TiVo Premiere is known for, including multi-room viewing.
